New Plant Opens in City
New Britain - Celebration Foods, the company that produces
Carvel ice cream cakes, has opened a new facility at the old
Fafnir Bearing Co. factory.
The company has relocated its headquarters and
manufacturing operation to a 13 1/2 acre site on Myrtle
Street, a once-polluted property that was cleaned up through
the state's brownfields program.
The area, which stood vacant for more than 10 years, now
houses a 120,000-square-foot production facility that has
allowed Celebration to bring its plants in Maryland,
California and Massachusetts under one roof.
Officials celebrated the opening of the plant Tuesday,
saying the city's newest taxpayer has created 250 jobs.
